GAY IN CASTLEBAR

Castlebar town received a big surprise on Sat 8th of Feb as the largest OUTWEST event to date took place in the TF Royal Hotel and Theatre. The event was planned for 3 months and was well advertised and this showed as 450 people turned up.

Accommodation in the hotel was fully booked 2 weeks after the date for the disco was arranged but plenty of other reasonable accommodation was available in Castlebar.

Everyone met-up in the academy bar upstairs in the hotel from 8pm on and headed down to the Royal Theatre at about 9pm.By 10 pm the venue was packed and Gloria the Gay and Lesbian choir from Dublin started their performance, which lasted for about 40 minutes. As before Gloria provided a good performance that was very entertaining.

At about 10:40pm the disco started and as always Ace DJ’s from Galway AKA Betty Herring entertained. By this time the venue was packed with people of all ages and gender, everyone was especially surprised by very large amount of young faces there!

OUTWEST had the usual spot prizes on the night and a 21” TV and video was also raffled.
The hotel provided a late disco licence and the music stopped close to 3am. The resident’s bar remained open till late for those who were staying in the hotel.

Things got hot as a bottle of wine was on offer at the end of the night for the best looking male on the stage to strip off.Things got raunchy as a young fine looking 20-year-old man from Dundalk took up the offer and ended up removing more clothes than he had planned as stood completely naked on the stage, though no-one in the venue was complaining.

OUTWEST would especially like to thank Gloria for their performance and for Travelling up on the night.

We would also like to thank Ace DJ’s, Zulu’s bar and Strano’s in Galway and anyone else who helped to promote the event in any way by telling their friends, attending displaying posters etc.
